October 20, 2009Avalanche!

Wow! I haven't seen such an intense video in a long time. I almost feel bad posting it. But I figure it serves as a good safety reminder as well as a good rebuttal to that most dangerous (and fun) of questions: "What's the worst that can happen?" For busy people, they talk for about a minute before dropping-in.

Avalanche Skier POV Helmet Cam Burial & Rescue in Haines, Alaska from Chappy on Vimeo.

Thanks to Raids Aventure and skinews.fr for the link.

I'm just glad the video has a happy ending. It certainly reinforces the idea that you need to be properly trained and equipped if you want to allow yourself to enjoy the backcountry.

Avalanche!

When you're here, you have to be careful. And enjoy the scenery.

So don't forget to be safe, but also to have fun!

Wow. I just saw the vid. That was seriously intense.. The risk of avalanche is not so high in Quebec but still, a good training is always useful especially up North of out West! The guys at the Centre d’avalanche de la Haute Gaspésie have a good one (it’s given in the Chics Chocs) http://www.centreavalanche.qc.ca/info.php
