Arc’teryx is one of the leading brands within the outdoor industry known for their continuously phenomenal products and their innovative designs and technologies. The company is no stranger to revolutionizing outdoor gear and often produces the “firsts” thus setting the bar for other outdoor companies. Introducing Arc’teryx’s first trail running shoe; the Norvan VT and the Norvan VT GTX.
The Shoe and All of Its Glorious Features
The shoe is available in both men’s and women’s sizes and there are a collection of vibrant colour schemes to choose from for each. This may be the first model of Arc’teryx’s trail running shoes collection, but it most definitely won’t be the last.
The Norvan VT is a trail running shoe that is built for steeper, more technical terrain and is the first of it’s kind. (Fun fact, the VT in the name stands for Vertical Terrain.) These particular shoes are appealing to climbers, alpinists and trail runners who are exploring new regions and finding themselves exposed to gnarlier, more technical terrain where they would usually reach for a pair of approach shoes.
Designed to allow runners to adapt to varying terrain, The Norvan VT offers a comfortable and supportive fit with a 9mm heel-to-toe drop which is more than the standard 6mm for other trail running shoes. The shoes boast a high sidewall around the ankle as well as an “extremely durable upper” making them tough and ready for action anywhere! There’s even a GORE-TEX® version so you can wear these shoes anywhere your feet take you whether it be dry trails or muddy paths.
All these features together with the shoe’s lightweight, create the perfect high performance trail running shoe, and the best part is that the features don’t stop there! Moving onto the sole of the shoe, there is a mix of two types of Vibram® grip technologies – Vibram® Idrogrip and Vibram® Megagrip. Thanks to Vibram®, athletes can run with confidence that the reliable traction will tackle technical trails and features without problem!
The front 1/3 of the shoe has Vibram® Idrogrip whereas the remaining rear 2/3 is made of Vibram® Megagrip. (Think of the black portion of the sole as the front 1/3 and the coloured portion as the remaining 2/3.) The combination of the two allow the runner to run confidently over slippery, wet rocks and roots and loose gravel or grit found along hard surfaces. The Norvan VT is a versatile shoe that is capable to go from a gnarly, rooted trail to scrambling up a steep rocky slope on a heel turn! The 360° Support System lacing system is simple and allows for easy adjustment so you can make these quick transitions smoothly.
If you look at the photo above, you’ll see a small black piece located on the second eyelet on the left side. This little piece is one of the support pieces and is shaped like a hook to hold the shoe-lace for a tighter fit. In the photo above, the shoe-lace from the right side is currently hooked on the hook but can easily be released for a more relaxed fit when the terrain levels out again. This feature is handy for a quick tightening adjustment just before a steep, technical scramble or portion of a trail so you have a better grip.
