Never Stop Exploring

The North Face slogan evokes summits scraping the clouds, paths snaking through forests, streams shimmering in the sun…In fact, our planet’s medical report paints a far from rosy picture. To adhere to what they believe in, The North Face had to take action with several planet-friendly ideas, Bottle Source being their most recent.

The collection features exceptionally comfortable shirts, hoodies and t-shirts made entirely from recycled plastic stemming from single-use water bottles. The bottles were collected in three different American national parks (Yosemite, Grand Teton and Great Smoky Mountains. The parks inspired the slogans on some of the clothing – Protect Our Parks, Worth Protecting and Our Land, Our Future.

Part of the Bottle Source line we tested at a recent camping trip to Joshua Tree National Park, California.

In addition to getting rid of more than 384,000 pounds from the waste streams of the national parks, The North Face also donates 1$ to the National Park Foundation for every article of clothing sold from the Bottle Source collection. The donations will be re-invested into park maintenance and conservation projects, like bear-proof trash cans and refill stations for reusable water bottles.

On the brand’s website, James Rogers, Director of Sustainability at The North Face, talks about the project. “Bottle Source is a fitting next step in our materials innovation. This collection helps fund sustainability efforts in our national parks as more and more people enjoy these stunning places.”

The beauty of The North Face’s initiative is that it attacks environmental issues on multiple fronts. It helps clean up the parks, recycles useful materials, and finances new green initiatives.

For The North Face, the Bottle Source collection is also the next step toward the use of different durable materials in their products. From now on we’ll gladly slip into our Bottle Source hoodie while keeping an eye out for the next green project from The North Face.
