Norrona, Ski & Snowboard. Norrøna Lofoten GORE-TEX® Pro Jacket Review

As your primary form of protection from the elements, your outer jacket should be able to stand up to anything mother nature can throw at it. So far, my Norrøna Lofoten GORE-TEX Pro Jacket has done just that!

First impression

When I first took this jacket out of the package I was super stoked just by how professionally made it looked. Everything from the zippers and seams being properly sealed, to how light and sleek it felt. When I put it on I ended up wearing it the rest of the day around Whistler village and even took it with me to Vancouver later that day for a weekend trip. Partly because I liked how it felt and partly because I just wanted to show it off.

After a Month’s Use

After using this jacket for about a month both on Whistler Blackcomb and in the backcountry, I’m still super happy with it! As a shell , it does a great job of keeping out the weather and the size is just right that I can fit lots of layers, including a back protector (when I’m racing) underneath without it being too tight. In the backcountry, I find the pit zips a relief on the climb so I don’t overheat and sweat too much. On the descents, everything zips up fairly quick and easy so I’m ready to ride.

One of the things I was really excited for in this jacket was the GORE-TEX keeping me dry, therefore, starting warmer on wet days. It hasn’t failed to disappoint either. The seams, zippers and fabric do an outstanding job of keeping moisture out, but on top of that, I’m a huge fan of the inner wrist gators on the sleeve that I can use under my gloves to keep snow from getting up there and freezing my wrists. And of course, the powder skirt is alway my friend on those days when the pow is deep and you’re having too good of a time to worry about snow blowing up your jacket.

• Fit is just right for layering
• Stretchy wrist gators
• Inner pocket for electronics with headphone hole
• Microfiber cloth on a leash in left chest pocket
• Pit zips for great ventilation
• Lightweight
• Keycard pocket on sleeve
• Powder skirt with silicone grip

• GORE-TEX zippers are a little stiff and can make the pit zip tricky to manage sometimes
• Inner chest pocket is a little too small for some phones or phones with bigger cases
• Hood is not removable (only a con if you’re into racing and want to reduce drag)

Overall I love using this jacket out on the mountains. It’s stylish, comes in unique colours and does exactly what a shell should do. I wear my Norrøna Lofoten GORE-TEX® Pro Jacket for everything, from backcountry touring to walking to work and would definitely recommend this jacket to anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast like me!
