March 01, 2012Origins of Freestyle Skiing

This film segment is from Dick Barrymore's "The Golden Years of Ski Films".

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I really appreciated its carefreeness. You could even say recklesness. Some of the skiers are just going hog-wild down that hill. I liked the spirit of everything, how it was focused on fun. Today, the skiers are much more impressive technically, but the fun seems to be absent, which is inevitable when you're fighting for a thousandth of a second. I guess it's simply the natural progression of things.

What do you think? Has skiing evolved for the better or for the worse?
