Working for Altitude-Sports has its perks. Since I've started here, I've been exposed to a whole new world of clothing, gear, and equipment. I get to try out different coats, gloves, sleeping bags, and backpacks. I get to fondle coyote fur all day without having to buy a Canada Goose jacket (or get bitten)!

Although I have to admit, the most amazing thing I've discovered since my arrival has got to be the discovery of Merino wool. I tell you, there's nothing like having one of those sheep close to your naked skin.
But I digress...
The problem is, however, that working here is a double-edged sword. I may have become knowledgeable about, and even fallen in love with tons of brands and products, but this has left me wanting to equip myself with more and more. And I'm not about to stop paying rent just so I can completely drape myself in Merino wool. So my brain had an idea.

Planters after work
Most tree planters are very unconcerned with their appearance. People go days without showering. Brushing hair is a hysterical waste of time. Wearing the same clothes is a practical delight. They wear odd compilations of chewed, borrowed clothes and rare new articles replacing last year's long dead and weather ravaged ones. Finding styles that accentuate their hips and bust, or that slim out their legs, or that are the right colours, is NOT a priority. Clothes should serve their primordial purpose, which is to protect you. Because if everything else is soaking wet or moldy with sweat, and all you have is an over-sized purple and blue dress shirt that makes you look like an inflated rubber ball, you may as well wear it with pride; any other way and your entire chest will be blistering with sunburn. It’s function over form out there folks. And remember: it’s not what you’re wearing, it’s how you wear it.

At the beginning of the summer camping season, we usually spend a lot of time shopping for a tent and sleeping bag, but there’s nothing better than a good ground mattress to ensure we are comfortable after a long day of outdoor activities.
New Outdoor Research Downmat Pump
For many years, we’d grown accustomed to sleeping on our good old dependable foam mats. Then, a couple of years ago, Therm-a-rest revolutionized ground mats by presenting us with self-inflating mattresses. This year, the Outdoor Research Company has come out with an improved version of their Downmat. What is a Downmat? Essentially, it is an air chamber mattress. These chambers are filled with goose down (700-fill). But why down? Simply because it’s the best insulation on the market! Your mattress therefore insolates you from the ground (humidity, cold), summer as well as in winter, all the while remaining compact. In terms of its compressibility, it compares quite closely to self-inflating mats. Since it is divided into air chambers, it is much more comfortable than a foam or self-inflatable mattress. Just thinking about having to inflate an air mattress can be exhausting! (No matter how in-shape you think you are!) But don’t worry; Outdoor Research has integrated a pump into the mattress! Marvelous, isn’t it? All you have to do is use one hand to give a couple of pumps and presto!

La saison de camping estivale vient tout juste de commencer, on prend souvent beaucoup de temps pour magasiner sa tente et son sac de couchage, mais rien de mieux qu’un bon matelas de sol pour assurer notre confort après une bonne journée de plein air.
Outdoor Research Nouvelle Pompe Down Mat
On nous a depuis longtemps habitués à dormir sur un bon vieux matelas de sol en foam. Puis, il y a quelques années, la compagnie Therm-a-rest a révolutionné les matelas de sol en proposant des matelas autogonflants. Cette année, la compagnie Outdoor Research nous revient avec une version améliorée de son tapis de sol Downmat. Qu’est-ce qu’un Downmat? Essentiellement, on parle d’un matelas à chambres à air. Ces chambres contiennent du duvet (duvet 700). Pourquoi du duvet? Simplement parce que c’est le meilleur isolant sur le marché! Donc, votre matelas vous isole du sol (humidité, froid), été comme hiver, tout en étant très compact. Au niveau de sa compressibilité, il se rapproche beaucoup des autogonflants. Étant donné que ce sont des chambres à air, le confort est beaucoup plus grand qu’un matelas en foam ou autogonflant.Vous vous demandez comment vous devriez gonfler votre matelas, et juste à y penser vous êtes essoufflé! (Coudonc, vous n’êtes pas supposé être en forme vous!). N’ayez crainte, Outdoor Research a intégré la pompe au matelas! Merveilleux n’est-ce pas? Vous n’avez qu’à actionner la pompe avec une main et en quelques coups, le tour est joué.
