Winter is sort of, kinda, maybe over soon. Yes, that means we may get more vitamin D soon, but it also means we will be combating the evil enemy known as slush. It strikes fear into the hearts of many, but with a good boot your sole may rest easy (boot puns, love them).
If you don't know about Bogs, early spring is the time to learn. Using neoprene to keep you warm and dry, their boots are revolutionizing fashion and function. Varying thicknesses of neoprene allow you to decide if you want it for winter, fall/spring, or summer (they are also releasing a summer line of thin rubber boots for the hot-feeted). Fully waterproof and extremely comfortable, Bogs are a good bet for sloppy conditions.
The Bogs Harper is definitely a model to look at this spring.

My lips have been trembling for months now trying to keep in my dirty secret. No, not that Lance Armstrong was actually a half man-half goat cyborg who needed EPO so as not to overheat in the mountain stages- everyone knows that. I've got the mouth itchies because an outdoor brand is going to be releasing products long awaited by die hard fans (*ahem* not the movie series) next Fall.

If you know high fashion then you know Moncler. A company rich in history, Moncler was started 60 years ago near the ski slopes of Grenoble in France, but more specifically Monestier-de-Clermont, where they get their name. Now based out of Milan, Moncler has one thing in mind when designing and that is fashion.

Two months ago I got my hands on a Patagonia R3 Hi-Loft jacket. Here are my impressions of this mid-layer.
I am always trying to improve my outdoor apparel and gear closet, and since I have started doing 50km bike commute to work everyday I have been in dire need of doing just that. That sort of daily exertion really made me question my already substantial technical clothing. Simply put, I was not happy with what I had.

Everyone has heard of Burton as a snowboard company no doubt. Basically in 1977 this cool kid from Vermont, Jake, decided to take a narrow piece of wood with a sharp tip, throw a foot strap and cord on the front and in the process revolutionized the world of snow sports- simple as that. Since that eventful day Burton has been growing unhindered, and eventually expanded from snowboards into the world of apparel. But there's more...

Meaning 'Arcitc Circle' in Finnish, Napapijri is a clothing and accessory company whose roots stem from Aosta, Italy. Its heritage is technical backpacks, an area the company had a strong background in, but their line-up soon broadened to include clothing. They most definitely have a unique style, often centering around the Norwegian flag. The European styling of Napapijri's products is a wonderful breath of fresh air.

The movie Top Gun did two things in my opinion: proved to us Kelly McGillis was not just a pretty face, and brought the bomber style jacket back. Although Kelly seems to have disappeared, the bomber jacket has never left the scene. Proof of this can be seen even in the outdoor industry where the bomber is not only in evidence, but an increasingly popular model. This article will look at three of the bomber jacket we carry to help you with this winter's important choice (are you Maverick or Iceman?) The Canada Goose Chilliwack is certainly a popular model, but why? Nobis recently came out with the Cartel- is it a worthy adversary? Finally, new to us this season, Napapijri does the Addy. Can it hold its own in a dogfight? Let's find out.

There are so many brands and down jackets on the market that confusion is bound to occur. To help you out I thought I would try and break it down into more palatable pieces. Today, for instance, I wanted to discuss four women's The North Face's down jackets- two are classics and two are newcomers.
What you should know about these four models is that they are all sure bets. Incredibly warm, and all four are guaranteed for the life of the jacket, although I am willing to bet you never need to use it, these models will be around for years to come. The only question is choosing the right model for your needs. Let's take a look.

Mid-January can be harsh, without question, and a massive down jacket can often be a solution to this quagmire. However, not everyone walks 45 minutes to work in Montreal, or waits for the bus in Saskatoon at 5:45am to 'get the worm.' Some of us take the metro or car-pool, and don't need a hulking insulating layer that could keep you warm at the summit of Everest. Let me introduce to you the Nobis Stanford, a light-weight down filled beauty. The down jacket for those who are constantly in and out of the cold.

I feel my peripheral vision go black as I take another step on the steep snow ridge. I look down at the precipice below me. The snow slopes fall on both sides almost vertically; no self-arrest will stop a fall here and it’s a long, long way down. It’s not that walking on the ridge is particularly difficult; there is enough space on the narrow ledge for at least one cramponed mountain boot, if not always two. But passing out here would mean a fall to certain death, and I feel faint from the lack of oxygen. I chose to stop and catch my breath.

It’s one thing to test the warmth of winter-wear when doing hard physical sports but it’s a bit different if you just plan on lounging around in the unforgiving cold like a lone emperor penguin. In that case, it’s not so much about wind resistance and more about keeping the heat of your inert body where it counts, in your pants.
I was going camping with two of my buddies on what was most likely going to be the coldest weekend of the winter. The whole thing materialized without much forethought. It was going to be a steady -23c the whole night without wind and I had no idea what I was getting into. I was probably generally ill equipped but I’m pretty sure I picked the right trousers.
