Layering for your outdoor activities is an important factor in how well you will enjoy them. If you are illy dressed, you may enjoy your experience a little less than if you were dressed appropriately. For this reason, brands like The North Face will offer a variety of products and collections to simplify your layering. The weather and temperatures will determine how many layers are necessary and your activities will determine which layers are best. Knowing which layer is best for your activity can be as simple as understanding the difference in the benefits of certain materials and insulations.

Below, we explore the differences between The North Face’s two popular mid-layer collections, the ThermoBall™ collection and the Ventrix™ collection.

ThermoBall™ VS Ventrix™

While both collections are designed for hiking and utilize synthetic materials and insulation, there are minor differences between them. Overall, the ThermoBall™ and the Ventrix™ are both great mid-layers

If you are looking for a mid-layer that offers optimal breathability, the Ventrix™ is going to be the better choice. Excess heat is released through micro vents that open and close to regulate your body temperature as you move. When you are still, these micro vents remained closed, keeping warm air in. During movement, the micro vents open to allow warm air to be released. Ideal for hiking and climbing, the Ventrix™ works as you move.

If you’re looking for a mid-layer that is lightweight, warm and stylish enough to wear on the slopes and in town, the ThermoBall™ is a great choice. Available in a vest model as well as a jacket with and without a hood, the ThermoBall™ is perfect for keeping the whole family warm.
